Kyky Tandy and Detorrion Ware were both named to the Lexington Herald-Leader All-State basketball teams released Wednesday.
Tandy, a junior at University Heights Academy, was named to the First Team after averaging 30.5 points a game and helping lead the Blazers to their first Sweet 16 appearance in a decade. The 6-2 guard shot 61-percent from the field and 47-percent from 3-point range. He scored 31 points at Rupp Arena in UHA’s opening round loss to Campbell County.
Florida, Oklahoma, Western Kentucky, and Tennessee offered Tandy early with Kentucky starting to show interest midway through the season, even prompting Coach John Calipari to watch Tandy in the Second Region title game.
Ware, a senior at Christian County, was named Second Team All-State after averaging 31.9 points and 9.1 rebounds. He shot 52-percent from the field and 36-percent from 3-point range and leaves Christian County as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,314 points.
SEMO and St. Louis are among the schools that have shown an interest in Ware.
Tandy and Ware were the only players from the Second Region named either All-State or All-State honorable mention. A total of 52 coaches returned ballots to the newspaper.
