The Lyon County girls’ basketball team went on the road Friday night and earned its first 5th District win of the season, winning 48-39 over the Crittenden County Lady Rockets. The Lady Lyons improve to 9-3 on the year and have won seven of their last eight, avenging a 36-28 home loss to the Lady Rockets in early December. Crittenden County slips below .500 at 6-7, 2-2 in district play.
The Lady Lyons doubled-up the Lady Rockets in the first quarter, with junior Allison Murphy and senior forward Hannah Holloman accounting for all 10 points for Lyon County. The Lady Lyons duplicated their first-half point total in the second quarter, but Crittenden topped them with 11 to cut the halftime lead to 20-16.
The Lady Lyons came out of the halftime break cold, only managing 6 third-quarter points and allowing Crittenden to tie the game at 26 heading into the final quarter. However, Murphy and Holloman would again take over, combining for 17 of the Lady Lyons 22 fourth-quarter points to lead them to the 48-39 victory.
Holloman led the team with 19 points, followed closely by Murphy with 17. Senior guard Sophia Bingham scored 6, with freshmen Calista Collins and Kenttavia Matthews adding 4 and 2, respectively. Senior guard Mauri Collins paced the Lady Rockets with 13, and senior guard Madison Champion had 12.
The Lady Lyons return to the court on Monday when they welcome the 9-4 Carlisle County Comets to Eddyville.
