Caldwell County dropped their opening game of the West Kentucky Hoops Classic Thursday, falling to Ridgeway High of Memphis 60-51. The Tigers had trouble matching Ridgeway’s size, with the Roadrunners blocking 11 shots and scoring one-third of their points in the paint.
Caldwell jumped out to a 7-3 lead, but Ridgeway found the three-ball, knocking down three 3-pointers to finish the quarter on a 15-7 run. Ridgeway hit 7-of-19 shots from behind the arc for the game.
Every time Ridgeway looked like they were going to run away with the game, the Tigers were able to string together buckets to stay close. Caldwell trailed 27-21, and Ridgeway built a 53-37 lead early in the fourth quarter. The Tigers got to within nine points four times in the final frame but couldn’t get any closer.
The Roadrunners (6-2) took advantage of Caldwell’s mistakes, scoring 22 points off 15 Tiger turnovers. Ridgeway also held a 26-15 advantage on the boards.
Derrin Boyd led Caldwell County with 28 points and six rebounds. He hit 9-of-13 at the free throw line. Cayden Fraliex added six points.
Antonio Thomas paced three Roadrunners in double figures with 18 points.
Caldwell County will play Dyersburg, TN Friday night at 8pm.
