Caldwell Falls in Tough 2nd Region Battle at Webster County

The Caldwell County Tigers came up just short in the final seconds Thursday night, falling on the road at Webster County 64-61. Chatman Ellis hit two free throws in the final seconds to secure the win for the Trojans.

The game was a battle throughout the night. Webster County was leading 15-10 in the first quarter, when Caldwell County ripped off nine in a row to take a 19-15 lead after one. The Trojan defense took over in the second quarter, holding the Tiger to just five points. Webster managed to put 13 on the boards and took at 28-24 lead into the locker room.

The game stayed tight through the 3rd quarter. Caldwell County managed to trim one point off the lead by the end of the quarter, which found the Trojans in front 44-41.

Caldwell County fought back behind the play of Derrin Boyd to take a one point lead midway through the 4th quarter, which set the game on its path towards a dramatic conclusion, including Ellis’ two big free throws with 8 seconds to go.

Derrin Boyd had a huge night for Caldwell County with 31 points. John Davis added 11, while Jameer Riley chipped in with 10. Webster County was paced by Chatman Ellis with 29, and Tyler Camplin with 17.

Caldwell County falls to 2-4, and will travel to Calloway County on Saturday. Webster County improved to 5-1going into a Friday night matchup with Dawson Springs.
