A tough Saturday for the Lyon County Lady Lyons as they dropped a pair of games on the final day of the regular season. The Lady Lyons ran into a buzzsaw in the form of Ballard, and fell 12-2. In their second game of the day, the Lady Lyons fell in a tough pitchers duel to South Oldham 2-1.
In the loss to Ballard, the Lady Bruins scored in five of their six at bats, and pounded out 14 hits in the ten run win. Meanwhille, Ballard pitching limited Lyon County to just two hits.
Ballard jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings. The Lady Lyons cut the lead to 5-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the 3rd. The runs came off a two run blast by Sydney Melton.
Ballard then put the game away with a run in the 4th, two runs in the 5th, and then reached the ten run rule with four more runs in the bottom of the 6th.
Sydney Melton led the way for Lyon County, going 1-3, with a home run, and two RBIs. Allye Culp went 1-2.
Allye Culp took the loss for Lyon County, going two innings, giving up 5 runs, on six hits.
In the game against South Oldham, Lyon County fell behind 2-0 and could never quite get back to the lead. A Lady Lyons error led directly to a run in the first inning for South Oldham. In the 5th inning, South scored on an RBI double to extend the lead to 2-0.
Lyon County cut into the lead in the bottom of the 6th on a sacrifice fly from Nelli Walker to make it 2-1.
The Lady Lyons looked to have a good chance to win the game in the bottom of the 7th. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with no outs, but the Lady Lyons were unable to push across a run as South Oldham held on for the win.
Calista Collins ended up 2-4, with a double. Sydney Melton finished the game 1-3.
In the circle, Allye Culp was tagged with the loss, going five innings, giving up two runs, one of them earned, on five hits, striking out three, while walking one.
