A late scoring drought saw Cobden pull away from Lyon County and nab a 65-45 win at the Marion Holiday Classic in Illinois Saturday.

The Illinois school outscored Lyon County 19-3 in the fourth quarter, keeping the Lyons off the scoreboard for the first seven minutes of the final frame.

Cobden led for most of the game, grabbing a 14-11 advantage after one quarter and 27-22 at halftime.  Lyon County pulled to within 46-42 after three quarters before Lyon’s drought settled in.

Only five Lyons scored in the contest.  Jackson Shoulders scored 10 of his 19 points in the first half, and Travis Perry scored 10 of his 17 points in the first half.  Brady Shoulders and Jack Reddick both hit 3-pointers, and Brady Shoulders added two points.  The Lyons were just 4-of-7 at the free throw line.

Cobden (6-2), whose colorful school mascot is the Appleknockers, was led by Joe Brumleve’s 21 points.  They were 14-of-18 at the charity stripe.

The 45 points scored Saturday were the fewest by Lyon County since a 64-37 loss to McCracken County 51 weeks ago.  The Lyons (2-1) will play Murray Sunday at 3pm in the Marshall County Hoopfest.
