Todd County Central senior Austin Rager hit four 3-pointers and the Rebel defense held Ballard Memorial to 10 points or less in each quarter on the way to a 53-35 victory Friday night in Elkton. First-year coach Dennis Pardue and the Rebels are just over a week out from an opening-night visit from Hopkins County Central.
The Rebels took a 16-10 advantage after the first quarter behind 6 points from sophomore Amari Andrews, with Deonte Toliver doing the damage in the second with 5 points for a 34-20 halftime lead.
Rager hit 4-6 from downtown in the game, knocking down all three he attempted in the third quarter, and the Rebels led by 14 heading to the fourth. Neither team did much scoring over the final 8 minutes, managing a combined 12 points.
Rager’s 18 points led the Rebels, followed by Andrews with 12 and 7 rebounds. Freshman Micah Smith reached double figures with 10, while Toliver added 8.
