Hopkinsville’s Chase Atkins set a new school record Saturday and took his time under the 16-minute mark in the process.
Atkins finished third at the Owensboro FastCats Invitational in a time of 15:52 over the 3.1-mile course. He was 25 seconds behind the race winner, Matthew Hauser of Rock Bridge, Indiana and 22 seconds behind last year’s Class 3A runner-up Jonah Mitchell.
Chance Jones finished 54th with a time of 18:01. Jonathan Quincey was 146th in 20:11, and Jerel Lee was 213th (23:16).
Meanwhile, Allison Wood was the first Lady Tiger across the finish line in the girls’ varsity race in 14th place. She completed the 3.1-mile course in a time of 20:13. Miyu Takenaka finished 66th in a time of 23:06. She was followed across the line by Eva Blankenberger in 78th place (23:29); Brooklyn Taylor in 141st (27:32); and Jessie Creamer in 154th (32:32).
Carolyn Ford of Rock Bridge Indiana won the race in a time of 18:19.
Hopkinsville finished 12th as a team with 293 points. Rock Bridge, Indiana took the team title with 31 points. Daviess County was second with 59 points.
