Senior quarterback Bryce Nolan ran for four touchdowns and threw for another and the Todd County Central Rebels overcame a slow start in a 57-27 blowout of visiting Caverna on Friday night.  It was Homecoming Night in Elkton and the Rebels celebrated in style, moving to 5-0 for the first time since the 1974 season.

Early on it looked like the Rebels could be in for a rough night in front of a huge crowd, with Caverna benefitting from multiple Todd County penalties to march down the field and score on an 8-yard run by quarterback Drew Rhodes.

The Rebels got on the board on a touchdown run by JaTwan Graham, but the extra point was no good and they trailed the Purple Knights 7-6 after the first quarter.

Todd County wasted no time jumping on top in the second quarter, with Nolan finding the end zone on a 35-yard run.  The Rebels added a 2-point conversion and led 14-7 with 11:51 left in the half.

Nolan was in the end zone again a short time later from 12 yards out, followed by consecutive safeties on Caverna’s next two possessions.  Hunter Johnson and Isaac Marshall combined for the tackle on the first, with Jonathan Flores pulling down the Purple Knights’ Rhodes for the second.

Jamarion Smith stretched the margin to 30 with a pick 6 on Caverna’s next possession, before Nolan blew past the Purple Knight defense for a 60-yard score.  The teams traded touchdowns over the final minute of the half, with Rhodes hitting Zyier Yates for a 40-yard score.  Todd County restored the 30-point cushion on a 30-yard connection between Nolan and Gavyn Nolan with seconds remaining.

Todd County’s Kimahri Briggs triggered the running clock when he took the opening kickoff of the second half all the way back for a 50-13 score.  Rhodes scored on a long run for the Purple Knights before Nolan added his final touchdown on a 15-yard run.  Rhodes padded his stats with a long scoring run with just over two minutes to play for the final score.

The Rebels will look to stay unblemished on the season when they host Owensboro Catholic on next week.  The Aces beat Hopkins County Central 68-14 on Friday, while Todd County topped the Storm 60-34 a week ago.
