The Caldwell County Lady Tigers will head off to Richmond this week, hoping to repeat a little magic from 2010. The Lady Tigers will be back in the All A Classic volleyball tournament, which gets underway Friday evening on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University.
The tournament begins Friday evening with four sets of pool play, with the winner and runner-up from each pool advancing to the championship bracket on Saturday. The 3rd and 4th place teams in each pool will play in the consolation bracket on Saturday.
The Lady Tigers are in Pool D for the tournament. The other teams in that pool will be Christian Fellowship, Bishop Brossart, and Pikeville.
The Lady Tigers will open play at 6:45 eastern time Friday evening with a match against Christian Fellowship. The two teams are no strangers to each other, having met earlier this season. Back on August 27th, the Lady Tigers won in straight sets, but all three sets were tight, down to the wire finishes. CFS comes out of the weekend with a record of 9-2.
Caldwell County will return to action Friday night at 8:15pm, when they take on Pikeville. The Lady Panthers won the 15th Region All A championship, and came out of the weekend with a record of 10-2 on the season.
Saturday morning finds the Lady Tigers playing Bishop Brossart in their final pool play match of the tournament Saturday morning at 9:45. The Lady ‘Stangs are the champions of the 10th Region, and come out of the weekend with a record of 6-1.
Championship and consolation bracket play is set to get rolling at 11:00an Saturday.
The Lady Tigers most successful run in the All A Classic came during the 2010 volleyball season. That season, Caldwell County beat Louisville Holy Cross, Bethlehem, and Louisville Holy Cross, on their way to winning the championship bracket of the tournament.
In their last appearance in 2017, the Lady Tigers lost in the quarterfinals of the championship bracket to Kentucky Country Day. In 2016, Caldwell County made it to the semifinals of the championship bracket before falling to St. Henry. In 2015, the Lady Tigers won the consolation bracket of the tournament.
In the 2013 tournament, Caldwell County reached the final of the consolation bracket, where the Lady Tigers fell to Community Christian. Back in 2012, the Lady Tigers lost to Presentation in the quartefinals of the championship bracket. The 2011 All A Classic saw Caldwell County fall to Bethlehem in the quarterfinals of the championship bracket. In 2009, the Lady Tigers fell to Louisville Holy Cross in the semifinals of the championship bracket.
