The only change in the YSE 2nd Region Volleyball Super 7 this week comes at the very top. Caldwell County took the win over UHA Wednesday night in the biggest match of the season in the 2nd Region so far. That match, in the All A 2nd Region final, could well be a preview of a match later in the season at the 2nd Region tournament. Only time will tell. Otherwise, the rest of the pack stays the same as we get into the early part of September.
– Caldwell County (6-1) – Round 1 goes to the Lady Tigers as they won a tough straight set match against UHA Wednesday night at Fort Campbell. Caldwell stays busy before their trip to Richmond with at least five matches over the next week. Big week ahead for the team now sitting in the regional favorite’s chair.
– University Heights (7-2) – Even with the loss in the All A final, this is still a team that could end up winning the 2nd Region title come October. The Lady Blazers have a run of district games coming up. You have to wonder just how much that time off leading into the All A might have affected them Wednesday night.
– Henderson County (7-6) – Don’t be deceived by their record, the northern Lady Colonels are still a team to be reckoned with. Their schedule has been brutal, and you have to figure they will be there at the end. For the moment, they are beating the teams they are supposed to handle. Can they pick up one of those “signature” wins.
– Madisonville (6-3) – The Lady Maroons are in much the same situation as Henderson County. They are beating the teams they are supposed to, but can they step up and take down some of western Kentucky’s best teams. Matches coming up with Caldwell County and UHA should tell us much more about the Lady Maroons.
– Crittenden County (4-7) – The Lady Rockets were steamrolled by UHA in the All A regional semifinals. They may be better than they played in that match. Matches coming up with Webster County and Hopkins Central will tell us if they are in the second tier of the region’s teams.
– Webster County (5-5) – This is starting to sound like a familiar chorus. The Lady Trojans are winning the matches they should win. Can they take the next step up? They will get the chance over the next couple of weeks with matches against Caldwell County, Madisonville, and Henderson County coming up.
– Hopkinsville (2-5) – The Lady Tigers record may be a bit deceiving. Their schedule has been beyond tough. However, that could ultimately pay off down the stretch of the season. Several opportunities ahead for us to see just what progress this team is making.
