Hopkinsville remains atop the YSE Boys’ Soccer Super 7, although the next two weeks will go a long way in slotting the right teams in the right places.
1) Hopkinsville (3-2) – The Tigers broke out of their offensive slump with seven goals against Fort Campbell Tuesday. If this becomes a trend, the rest of the region may want to watch out. Hoptown gets their first region test Thursday when they host Madisonville.
2) Henderson County (3-1-2) – The Colonels appear primed to move into the top spot after wins over Fairdale and Owensboro. David Gonzalez and Adam Gillham have stepped forward as offensive leaders with five other Colonels scoring goals. Henderson jumps into district play Tuesday against Webster County.
3) Madisonville (3-0-1) – The Maroons are unbeaten against teams with a combined record of 7-12-4. Their schedule picks up in the coming week with games against Hopkinsville, First Region All-A champion Mayfield, and University Heights Academy. We should have a better gauge on the Maroons after the next 10 days.
4) Trigg County (5-0) – The Wildcats are off to their first 5-0 start in school history. Their defense has allowed just two goals, but Trigg County hasn’t played a team with a winning record yet. They should learn more about their team in the coming week with games against Paducah Tilghman and Webster County.
5) University Heights (2-1) – The Blazers will see their 17-day stretch away from the pitch end Tuesday when they face off against Fort Campbell in the All-A Classic region semifinals. The schedule toughens after that with games against Madisonville and Hopkinsville.
6) Christian County (1-4) – It’s rare that a team loses twice and moves up the Super 7. However, three losses by 2-1 scores against teams with winning records means the Colonels are close to a breakthrough in the win column. Christian County hosts Hopkins County Central Tuesday before a Thursday district showdown with Hopkinsville.
7) Webster County (1-2) – After opening with a 10-0 win over Caldwell County, the Trojans did not score in losses to Ohio County and Paducah Tilghman. They have games coming up against Henderson County and Trigg County that should move the needle on their ranking.
