Another week, another seven days atop the 2nd Region and YSE’s Girls’ Soccer Super 7 for the Henderson County Lady Colonels, although Madisonville-North Hopkins and scoring maching Camryn LaGrange are poised to move into the top spot if the Lady Colonels slip up.  Here’s how the top seven look for this week.

  1. Henderson County (4-1-2) – The Lady Colonels earned draws with Evansville Reitz, IN and Marshall County, before topping McCracken County 4-1.  They seem to have replaced Maddie Griggs’ scoring by committee, with seven players scoring multiple goals so far this season.  Henderson will be busy over the next seven days, beginning with a Thursday night match-up with Daviess County, before huge 2nd-Region meetings with Madisonville-North Hopkins and Hopkinsville.
  2. Madisonville-North Hopkins (5-1) – The Lady Maroons are riding a five-game winning streak after two shutout wins last week, 10-0 over Evansville Christian School, IN and 6-0 over 7th-District rival Caldwell County.  Camryn LaGrange continues to find the back of the net with regularity, bagging 17 goals in six games so far.  A difficult week awaits, with a Thursday night meeting with Hopkins County Central, followed by visits by Henderson County and Marshall County.
  3. University Heights Academy (1-2) – The Lady Blazers didn’t play over the last seven days due to school trips, but they hold onto their spot on the strength of a 1-0 win over Hopkinsville in their last game.  UHA will begin All “A” play on September 3, before an 8th-District match-up with surging Christian County.
  4. Hopkinsville (3-4) – The Lady Tigers are winless, albeit against difficult competition, since the loss of leading scorer Ana Hernandez, and barely hold off Caldwell County to stay in the fourth spot this week.  Hoptown managed just a single goal in losses to Murray and Ohio County and will need to find some offense with a road meeting with Marshall County and a visit from Henderson County coming up.
  5. Caldwell County (3-2) – The Lady Tigers have been shutout in two meetings with the top teams in the rankings, falling 3-0 to Henderson earlier in the season and 6-0 to Madisonville last time out.  The loss to the Lady Maroons may say more about how good they are than anything negative about the Lady Tigers, as Caldwell has handled their business in 2nd-Region meetings with Webster County and Lyon County.  A test against Graves County awaits on Thursday night, before the Lady Tigers begin All “A” play later in the week.
  6. Hopkins County Central (4-1) – The Lady Storm only played once last week, a 7-2 road win over McLean County.  Things get much more interesting on Thursday night when they make the short trip to face Madisonville-North Hopkins.  A strong showing against the Lady Maroons could see Hopkins Central jump up in the rankings next week, although with Lyon County and Christian County right behind them, the Lady Storm’s position is precarious.
  7. Lyon County (5-2) – The Lady Lyons suffered a 4-0 loss to Caldwell County, before knocking off Webster County 2-0.  The nature of the shutout loss to Caldwell seems to draw a line between the Lady Lyons and the teams above them, as the Lady Tigers have struggled when they faced the top teams in the rankings.  However, a game against Fort Campbell and a measuring-stick match-up with UHA in the All “A” await, and strong results there could make the Caldwell loss less significant.  If Lyon County stumbles, the resurgent Christian County Lady Colonels, winners of two-straight, stand ready to move into the rankings.
