A younger, quicker Trigg County girls’ soccer team took the field Thursday for their first preseason scrimmage, falling to Murray 2-0.

Despite the loss of five starters from last year’s team, Trigg County looked sharp early and was able to move the ball at midfield.  Murray got on the board first when Trigg County was called for a tackle in the goal box that saw the Lady Tigers awarded a penalty kick.  Angela Gerhardt knocked home the shot to give Murray a 1-0 lead 24 minutes in.

Murray outshot Trigg County 9-1 in the first half with Kenzie Young making six saves.  She finished the game with 11 saves.

Gerhardt scored Murray’s next goal midway through the second half when she was able to get behind the Trigg defense on a breakaway.

Trigg County, who was 5-14-1 last year, will host Fort Campbell in a scrimmage next Thursday.

Murray graduated a large senior class from a team that was 10-11 last year and advanced to the All-A Classic State Tournament.
