Hopkinsville rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a three-run fourth inning and a four-run fifth and knocked off Henderson County 7-3 Tuesday night in the 2nd Region baseball semifinals.
Hopkinsville (20-13) will take on Caldwell County (18-15) in Wednesday’s 6 p.m. championship game at Sid Stone Stadium at Union County High School.
The battle of Tigers is also a showdown of three of the last four regional champions. Hoptown claimed the 2nd Region title in 2015 in its last appearance in the title game. Meanwhile, Caldwell claimed regional crowns in 2016 and 2017.
Zach Caudill and Jacob Dilday combined to limit Henderson County to just one earned run on six base hits in the semifinal round.
Caudill was the winning pitcher, going the first four innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three and walking four. Dilday went the final three innings to earn the save. He allowed just an unearned run on one hit while fanning two and issuing two free passes.
Henderson out-hit Hopkinsville 6-4, but the Tigers made the most of four walks, a hit batter and two Colonel errors.
Hoptown stranded just four while Henderson not only left eight men on base but also lost four runners on the basepaths.
Layne Jorgensen was 1-for-3 with a double and four runs batted in for the Tigers.
Bryce Willett was 1-for-3 and knocked in two for Henderson.
