It was a good measure of payback for the Lyon County Lady Lyons Memorial Day afternoon in Dixon. After losing to the Caldwell County Lady Tigers 16-4 just a few weeks back, the Lady Lyons got the Lady Tigers back when it mattered most, shutting them out 2-0 in the first game of the girls second region tournament at Webster County High School.

Tori Schenk was nothing short of scintillating in the circle, limiting Caldwell County to just three singles in the game. On offense, a two run homer from Sydney Melton proved to be all the offense the Lady Lyons would need on this steamy Monday afternoon.

The game was a pitchers duel from the get go, as Caldwell Countys Katie Franklin and Lyon County’s Tori Schenk were dominant in the circle. The first hit of the game did not come until the bottom of the 3rd inning when Sydney Melton’s two run blast to dead away center put the Lady Lyons up 2-0.

Meanwhile, Tori Schenk continued to control the game in the circle, holding the Lady Tigers hitless until Mashea Glover singled in the top of the fourth. Majah Hollowell added a single in the sixth and the Lady Tigers got a single from Haley Stiles in the top of the 7th inning, but Caldwell County never really threatened to plate a run against Schenk on the afternoon.

The Lady Lyons nearly added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th, but Calista Collins was thrown out at the plate.

Outside of Schenk, Sydney Melton was the queen of the day for the Lady Lyons, going 2-3, with a home run, a double, and two RBIs. Calista Collins ended up 1-3, with a double, while Gracen Wynn also finished the game 1-3.

Haley Stiles ended up 1-3 for Caldwell County, while Majah Hollowell went 1-2. Mashea Glover was 1-2, and was walked once intentionally.

In the circle, Tori Schenk went the distance for Lyon County, giving up just two hits, striking out two, and walking two.

In her final game for Caldwell County, Katie Franklin went six innings, giving up two runs, on four hits, striking out six, and walking two.

With the win, Lyon County advances to Tuesday evening’s first regional semifinal game.
