Christian County Drops Games to Male & Scott County

The Christian County Lady Colonels will begin district play Monday coming off a pair of tough losses Saturday. The Lady Colonels saw Male score two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to come from behind to pick up a 3-2 win. In the second game of the day Saturday for Christian County, Scott County scored eight runs over the final three innings to knock off the Lady Colonels 8-5.

In the opener, the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Colonels battled tightly throughout the game. Male took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI double in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Christian County came right back in the top of the 3rd inning. Tenley Gilbert led off the inning with a single. Emmy Blane picked up a two out walk. Tyler Shemwell then smashed a double to left field, scoring Gilbert and Blane, putting Christian County up 2-1.

The game stayed that way until the bottom of the 6th inning when Male got a leadoff walk, and then followed that up with a one out home run to make it 3-2 Male.

In the top of the 7th, Kelsey O’Daniel reached base on an error to lead off the inning. However, Male then set down the next three batters to close things out.

Tyler Shemwell went 1-3, with a double, and 2 RBIs. Pickle Winkler ended the game at 2-4, with a double. Tenley Gilbert finished 1-3, with a run scored.

In the circle, Riley Hancock went the distance for the Lady Colonels, giving up three runs, on four hits, and walking three.

In the second game of the day for Christian County, the Lady Colonels and Scott County, were locked up in a pitchers duel early. After three innings, the game was still knotted up at 0-0. Then, the pace of things picked up a bit.

Tyler Shemwell, who has been on a power hitting streak as of late, led off the bottom of the 4th inning with a home run to left, giving the Lady Colonels a 1-0 lead.

Once the ice was broken, the bats got going. In the top of the 5th, Scott County used five singles to plate four runs and take a 4-1 lead in the game. A couple of Christian County errors in the top of the 6th inning led to three more runs for Scott County, as the lead grew to 7-1.

Christian County loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning, and then scored two runs on two sacrifice flies to trim the lead to 7-3 going into the 7th inning.

Scott County picked up an insurance run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 7th to push the lead back out to 8-3.

The Lady Colonels looked like they were ready to mount a comeback when the bottom of the seventh got going. Pickle Winkler led off the inning with a single, followed by a home run to center by Emmy Blane, to trim the lead down to 8-5. However, Scott County set down the next three batters in order to close out the win.

Tyler Shemwell ended up 2-4, with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored. Pickle Winkler was 3-4, with a double, and a run scored. Emmy Blane finished 1-4, with a home run, two RBIs, and a run scored.

In the circle, Hannah Sumner took the loss, giving up seven runs, only four of them earned, on eight hits, while striking out three, and walking two.
