The Christian County Lady Colonels have been no stranger to the long ball this softball season. Monday evening, the home run ball turned out to be the difference, as all three Christian County runs scored as the result of dingers in a 3-1 win over Marshall County at Lady Colonel Field.

After Marshall County took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning, the Lady Colonels came right back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Tyler Shemwell blasted one to left field to even things up at 1-1 after the third.

The score stayed that way until the bottom of the 6th inning. Tyler Shemwell led off the inning with a walk. After Hope Jones flied out to center, Reni Shemwell hit a shot that carried over the left field fence and gave the Lady Colonels a 3-1 lead.

Hannah Sumner was then able to close the door and set down the Lady Marshals in order in the top of the 7th to seal the win.

The Lady Colonels had trouble getting a feel for the off speed pitching of Marshall County’s Gabbi Lovett, coming up with only five hits in the contest, with two of those leaving the yard. Hannah Sumner was even better for the Lady Colonels, giving up just one run, on four hits, striking out one, and walking none.

Tyler Shemwell was 1-2 for the Lady Colonels, with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored. Reni Shemwell was 1-2, with a home run, two RBIs, and a run scored.

Cayson Conner ended up going 3-3 for the Lady Marshals.
