
A late game rally ended with the tying run on base Thursday evening for the Christian County Colonels, as Trigg County grabbed a 5-0 lead and then held on for the 5-4 win at Colonel Field. Trigg County was able to get the five runs, despite coming up with only three hits in the game. On the other side, Christian County scored in three of their final four at bats but came up just short.
The Wildcats took the lead early in the game. Trigg used a walk, two wild pitches, and a ground out to manufacture a first inning run, taking the 1-0 lead.
Trigg County then looked to have things well under control in the third. Arlon Butts got things started with an RBI single to make it 2-0. A Colonel error directly lead to another run and the Trigg County lead growing to 3-0. Jude Hunter then doubled to left field scoring Jacob Kent and Hayden Cunningham, and just like that the Wildcat lead was at 5-0.
Christian County then began its fight to get back into the game in the bottom of the 4th inning. Wyatt Stevenson led off the inning with a double and then scored on a single off the bat of Jase Polley to make it 5-1.
In the 5th inning, Wyatt Stevenson doubled, scoring Austin Fields to cut the lead to 5-2. Jase Polley followed that up with a single to score Stevenson, and cut the lead to 5-3 after five innings.
Things got even tighter in the bottom of the seventh. Eric Silvy led off the inning with a single and then advanced to third on a single by Wyatt Stevenson. Silvy then scored on a sacrifice fly from Jase Polley to make it 5-4. Trigg County’s Arlon Butts was able to cut the rally short, inducing a fly ball and a ground out to end the game.
Arlon Butts finished the game at 1-3, with two RBIs. Jude Hunter was 1-3, with a double, and two RBIs.
Wyatt Stevenson went 3-4 for Christian County, with two doubles, an RBI, and two runs scored. Jase Polley ended the game 2-3, with three RBIs.
Arlon Butts went the distance for Trigg County to pick up the win, giving up four runs, on seven hits, striking out four, while walking five.
Bryson Brown, one of four pitchers to appear in the game for Christian County, was tagged with the loss.
