Fort Campbell’s Chandler Burgoyne and Jaida Smith were playing in their first region tennis tournament, and the duo had no intention of going home early. The duo played deep into the night before losing in a three-set tiebreaker.
Burgoyne and Smith edged the Christian County team of Jamie Keim and Paige Gilliam 6-2, 7-6 for Fort Campbell’s second double’s win of day one. They got off to a good start in their attempt for a second win, taking the first set against Madisonville’s Dani Cruz and Riley Marsh 6-4. The Lady Maroons battled back to take the second set 6-0 and won the third-set tiebreaker to win the match.
The other doubles’ team of Nitzay Irizarry-Rivera and Halee Brugge won their opener over Christian County’s Alexis Hogan and Carley Shaw 6-0, 6-0. They dropped their second match to Hopkinsville’s Ella Lester and Allie Fort 6-0, 6-1.
In singles’ play, Anjelle Lopez lost to Caldwell County’s Kaylee McEnaney 6-0, 6-0, and Abby Aspinwall lost to Hopkins County Central’s Liberty Skaggs 6-2, 6-0.
