Christian County has been pounding the softball all over the field in recent weeks but used a mixture of doubles and small ball to beat Trigg County Monday at the Complex.

The Lady Colonels were limited to just six hits, with half of those extra base hits. However, they were able to squeeze home a pair of runs to give them the early lead until they got their bats going.

Reni Shemwell walked to lead off the second inning, stole second, and was sacrificed to third by Taylor Shemwell. Karlie Crick laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to score Shemwell for the first run of the game.

In the third, Macy Lancaster led off the inning with a deep double to left. She stole third and scored on an Emmy Blane squeeze bunt for a 2-0 Lady Colonel lead. Tyler Shemwell followed with a deep double to left to put the Lady Colonels up 3-0.

Christian County tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning when Tyler Shemwell scored Lancaster with a sacrifice fly, and Hope Jones followed with an RBI single.

Trigg County got on the board in the fifth when Abby Terrell singled, advanced to second on a groundout and scored on a double steal.

In the seventh inning, Blane launched a solo home run to left field that gives her 42 for her career. She passed Maggie Glass for the career homer mark for the Lady Colonels.

Jones finished the game with two hits for the Lady Colonels and two standout defensive plays. Lancaster also had a pair of hits.

Hannah Sumner pitched the two-hitter for Christian County. She struck out five and walked two. The run she allowed was an unearned run.

Hannah Colbert took the loss for Trigg. She gave up six hits and four earned runs. She struck out eight and walked two.

Christian County (21-4) will host Henderson County Thursday, while Trigg County (12-12) will travel to Livingston Central Tuesday for a Fifth District matchup.
