After a day Thursday where the wind kept the Christian County Lady Colonels from using the long ball in their offensive attack, the Lady Colonels broke the big sticks out in a big way Friday evening. Keyed by a superb night from Taylor Shemwell, Christian County plated seven runs in the first inning and never looked back on their way to a 13-6 win over Calloway County.
Three separate Lady Lakers pitchers struggled with their control, giving up eleven walks in the game. That, combined with four home runs from the Lady Colonels, set up the big win for Christian County.
Christian County scored in each of its first four at bats, with seven runs in the first, a run in the second, another in the third, and four more in the 4th inning.
It was Taylor Shemwell’s night, as she went 2-3, with two home runs, and 7 RBIs. Tenley Gilbert was 1-2, with a home run, and two RBI. Emmy Blane ended up 1-3, with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored. Macy Lancaster continued to be on fire at the plate, going 2-3, with two RBIs.
Hannah Sumner picked up the win, going five innings, giving up six runs, on 10 hits, striking out two, while walking one.
