Lyon County’s Calista Collins connected for a grand slam in the fifth inning to blow open a tie game and send the Lady Lyons to a 12-2 victory over visiting Livingston Central on Tuesday night. Lyon County improves to 4-1 in 5th-District play and 14-7 overall, with a trip to Crittenden County coming up on Thursday. The Lady Cardinals remain winless in the district and slip to 9-7 on the year.
Kaelyn Conger got the Lady Lyons started with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first, but the Lady Cardinals used three-consecutive singles to tie the game in the top of the third.
Rachel Coursey led-off the bottom of the fifth with a double, and came home when Gracen Wynn reached on an error. With the bases loaded, Collins fouled off four pitches before crushing an offering by Livingston’s Sydney Lasher over the center-field fence to put the Lady Lyons up 7-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, Wynn led-off with a single and the next two Lady Lyons were hit by pitches to again load the bases for Collins. She singled to drive-in a run, before Hadlie Butler ended the game with a double to bring in Tori Schenk for a 12-2 score.
Allye Culp earned the win, going the distance while allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, on 4 hits, with a walk and 5 strikeouts.
Lasher took the loss for the Lady Cardinals, lasting 5.0 innings and allowing 12 runs, 8 earned, on 9 hits, with a couple of walks and 3 strikeouts.
