Caldwell County’s Derrin Boyd averaged 24.0 points a game as a senior and finished his high school career with 1,911 points.
It was that scoring ability that caught the eye of Georgetown College head coach Chris Briggs, who said he decided to offer Boyd a scholarship after watching him put up 43 points in Caldwell’s regular-season setback at University Heights Academy.
In eight years at Georgetown, Briggs has led the Tigers to two national championships, including the 2019 NAIA national title.
