Christian County took advantage of some of the best weather of the spring sports season to garner a tennis split with Webster County Monday at the Kenny Litchfield Sports Complex.
The Colonels edged the Trojans 5-4, while the Lady Colonels were swept 9-0.
Tyquez Douglas (8-4), Carson Brown (9-7), and Matthew Floyd (8-5) picked up singles’ wins for Christian County, while Vincent Major (8-4), Seth Ranes (8-1), and Ryan Warford (8-5) won matches for Webster County.
In doubles play, the duo of Douglas and K.T. Pollard picked up another win, knocking off Warford and Tyler Kuykendall 8-3. Dylan Greenfield and R.J. Faluey bounced back from singles losses to hand Webster’s Eli Byrum and Major an 8-6 setback. Reid Davenport and Lane Frailey notched Webster’s lone doubles win 8-6.
For the ladies, Webster County won all six singles matches and all three doubles matches.
Ella Brown fell to top seed Marissa Austin 8-2, and Lantana Hight lost to Maggie Jones 8-2.
In doubles play, Brown and Hight dropped a close 8-5 decision to Webster’s Mariah Austin and Abbie Michalek.
Paige Gilliam and Jamie Keim lost to Webster’s Austin and Gracey Kelley 8-1. Allie Newman and Maggie Jones of Webster completed the sweep with an 8-0 win over Alexis Hogan and Carly Shaw.
Christian County returns to the court Thursday when they take on University Heights Academy at the Kenny Litchfield Sports Complex.
