Hannah Sumner pitched a superb game while the Christian County Lady Colonels got all the offense they would need in the first inning Saturday in their first of two games at Lady Colonel Field. Sumner surrendered only two hits as the Lady Colonels took down Meade County 5-0.
The Lady Green Wave’s two hits were a single in the first and another single in the top of the 4th inning, as Sumner was in control throughout the game. Sumner struck out five and walked only two over seven innings of work.
Meanwhile, Christian County’s offense got all the production Sumner would need in their first time at the plate. Pickle Winkler led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk. Emmy Blane and Tyler Shemwell then hit back-to-back home runs to give the Lady Colonels a 3-0 lead. They threatened to score even more in the inning, but left the bases loaded without doing any more damage.
Christian County added a run in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Pickle Winkler led of the inning with a single, stole second base and advanced to 3rd base on a wild pitch. She would score on an RBI single by Emmy Blane to make it a 4-0 game.
In the 5th inning, Reni Shemwell walked, and then advanced all the way to third base on a bunt by Taylor Shemwell. She would then score on a Meade County error.
Emmy Blane was 2-3 in the game, with a home run, 3 RBIs, and a run scored. Tyler Shemwell went 1-3, with a home run, an RBI, and a run scored. Pickle Winkler was 1-3, with a walk, and two runs scored.
