Three local wrestlers are part of the Kentucky Blue Team competing in the USA Wrestling National High School Folkstyle Duals at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
The national event is open to wrestlers in grades 9-11. Team Kentucky won four duals matches on Thursday and Friday against teams from Indiana, Colorado, and Ohio.
Christian County’s Jakerion Merritt went unbeaten in the 132-pound weight class. He earned a 13-2 decision, a 9-1 decision, and won two matches by fall.
Christian County’s Niko Bussell is wrestling in the 220-pound class. He won a match by pin, won a 16-3 major decision, won a 10-2 major decision, and a 14-3 major decision.
Trigg County’s Colin Stevens went 4-0 in the 182-pound class. He won three matches by pin and claimed a 7-2 decision.
Team Kentucky wrestles for the team title Saturday with three more matches on the schedule.
