
A day after finding itself on the wrong end of a 14-4 score, the Heritage Christian Academy baseball team took the rematch 13-10 over Oklahoma’s Frontier High School. The Warriors improve to 1-2 on their spring break mission trip to Oklahoma, with a doubleheader with Oilton High School scheduled for Thursday.
After the first inning, the Mustangs held a 4-3 lead, but HCA’s Elijah Britton evened things up with an RBI double that brought home Trenton Hayes. The Warriors added another run on a Frontier error, but the Mustangs responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie it up again.
The Warriors used RBI singles by David Miller and Trenton Hayes to take an 8-5 lead, and were up 8-7 after three.
Caleb Jones doubled to right field to bring in 2 in the top of the fourth, before eventually scoring on a dropped third strike for a 4-run advantage.
After the Mustangs got a run back in the bottom of the frame, Caleb Jones singled to score Josh Jones to lead 13-8.
Frontier staged a 2-out rally in the bottom of the fifth, scoring 2 before the Warriors’ Josh Jones took the mound to get the last out.
Weston Powell worked the first inning, giving up 4 runs, 2 earned, on 3 hits, with a couple of strikeouts. Hayes came on in the second and went 3.2 innings for the win, yielding 6 runs, 3 earned, on 4 hits, with 6 walks and 4 strikeouts.
Caleb Jones was 2-2 at the plate and drove in 3 to lead the Warriors, followed by Hayes with 3 hits and an RBI. Josh Jones also had 3 hits, with Britton, Powell and Miller with a hit and an RBI each.
