The Heritage Christian Academy baseball team dropped the first two games of its spring-break trip to Oklahoma, falling 13-0 to Morrison High School and 14-4 Frontier High School. The Warriors will be back in action on Tuesday with a second game against Frontier, preceded by a meeting with Glencoe High School.
The Warriors were on the wrong end of three perfect innings in the opener, with Morrison’s Jonathan Pegg working 2.0 innings and striking out 5, and Doug Harshbarger striking out the side in the third.
Guner Womack and Taten Rupp were both 2-2 with 3 RBI to lead the Mustangs to a 13-0 victory.
Caleb Jones took the loss for HCA, lasting 1.1 innings while allowing 9 runs, 8 earned, on 7 hits.
After falling behind 4-0 in the top of the first against Frontier, the Warriors answered in the bottom of the inning with 4 to tie the game. HCA got started with a double by Elijah Britton, followed by an RBI double by Weston Powell to score Trenton Hayes and Britton. Josh Jones followed with another double to bring in Powell, with Jones eventually coming home for a 4-4 score.
However, that would be all the offense the Warriors could muster, with the Mustangs adding 2 runs in both the third and the fourth, before blowing the game open with 6 in the top of the sixth.
Jones took the loss for the Warriors, pitching 4.0 innings while surrendering 8 runs, 2 earned, on 5 hits, with 6 strikeouts and a walk.
Jones and Britton both finished with a couple of hits, with Jones driving in a run. Powell had a hit and drove-in 2.
