The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers made the trip to Tompkinsville Saturday to play in the Monroe County Invitational and came away with a split of their two games. In the opener, the Lady Tigers picked up their first win of the season, knocking off Adair County 5-2. The second game of the day saw the Lady Tigers fall to Metcalfe County 8-1.
Against Adair County, Hopkinsville used a three run fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie and pick up the win. Doubles from Morgan Hodge and Shaniya Straight were the big hits in the inning for the Lady Tigers.
Shaniya Straight was 3-3 in the game with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Morgan Hodge was 1-3 with a double, and an RBI. Nadia Clayton and Taiya Straight were each 2-3 in the game.
In the circle, Marley Hancock went all five innings, giving up two runs, one of which was earned, striking out eight and walking eight, to pick up the win.
In the matchup with Metcalfe County, Metcalfe scored six runs in the first two innings and never looked back on their way to the 8-1 win over the Lady Tigers. The Hopkinsville defense had its struggles in the first inning, committing four errors, as Metcalfe County took a 4-0 lead after ½ inning. In the second inning, the Lady Tigers pitching had its problems, giving up two walks and a hit batter as Metcalfe County scored two more to push the lead out to 6-0 after an inning and a half.
The Lady Tigers only run came in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI double by Kaitlyn Kaetzel.
For the game, Taiya Straight was 2-2, with a double, and a run scored. Kaitlyn Kaetzel was 1-2, with a double and an RBI.
Marley Hancock and Morgan Hodge combined to go the distance in the circle, striking out three and walking seven.
