Hopkinsville junior Layne Jorgensen got it done at the plate and on the mound on Friday night, pitching three strong innings and going 3-3 with a couple of triples to help the Tigers thump visiting Webster County 13-0. The Tigers move to 2-0 on the season with a visit from Northeast (TN) scheduled for Saturday, while the Trojans slip to 1-3.
Jorgensen walked two of the first three batters he faced, but struck out three to sit down the Trojans in the first. In the bottom of the first, the first two Tiger batters drew walks, with the next six batters hitting safely. Jorgensen got it started with a triple to score 2, followed by an RBI single by John Duvall. Duvall stole second and third before Blake Sowell tripled for a 5-0 lead. After two more singles and 2 runs scored on a wild pitch and a passed ball, the Tigers held a commanding 8-0 advantage.
Jorgensen struck out the side again in the second, and the Tigers added a couple more runs in their half. The Tigers added the final 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth, with Logan Durst singling for his second RBI of the game. After coming on in the fourth, Tim Cansler got the final three outs in the fifth to close out the victory.
Jorgensen and Cansler combined for a no-hitter, with Jorgensen walking four and striking out 8, and Cansler striking out four.
Jorgensen was 3-3 with 2 RBI, followed by Duvall with a couple of hits and 2 RBI, and Sowell and Durst with 2 hits and an RBI each.
Landon Black took the loss for the Trojans, lasting two innings while yielding 10 runs, 9 earned, on 9 hits with five walks.
