Caldwell County’s girls twice overcame three-run deficits to send Monday’s season opener against Henderson County to the seventh inning tied 7-7.
But the visiting Lady Colonels pushed across three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 10-7 decision at Lady Tiger Field in Princeton.
Henderson opened the game with three runs in the top of the first inning, but Caldwell responded with a four-spot in the bottom of the frame.
Allie Felker singled home a run while Haley Stiles had a sacrifice fly to center as the Lady Tigers went up 4-3.
But Henderson took advantage of a pair of Caldwell errors to score four times in the third to go back in front 7-4.
The Lady Tigers used the long ball to battle back and tie the game in the bottom of the sixth. Felker led off the inning with a solo home run to center. Majah Hollowell then drilled a two-run shot to center with two outs, knotting the score at 7-7.
But Caldwell couldn’t hold Henderson in check in the top of the seventh while dropping the three-run setback.
Felker finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs for the Lady Tigers. Hollowell added the homer while Madi Choate and Emma Staples each had doubles.
Katie Franklin suffered the loss in the pitching circle. She allowed eight hits but only three of the 10 runs she gave up were earned because of five Caldwell errors. Franklin struck out five and walked two.
The Lady Tigers will return to action on Saturday at Christian County.
