The Caldwell County tennis teams swept their way to season-opening victories at Paducah St. Mary on Monday.
Caldwell’s girls won 7-0 while the guys prevailed 5-0.
In girls singles action, Caldwell’s Belle Englebright blanked Madeline Lorch 8-0; Maddie Morgan beat Megan Lorch 8-0; Chasie Phelps defeated Claire Haas 8-2; and Kaylee McEnaney turned back Maya Smith 6-1.
In girls doubles action, Morgan and Phelps topped Madeline Lorch and Haas 8-2; Englebright and McEnaney routed Harley Frederick and Abby Vannetter 8-0; and Shae Sharp and Josie Shaffer defeated Adisyn Fleming and Chiara Dorian 8-4. It was Shaffer’s first varsity win.
In boys singles results, Caldwell’s Shelton Cansler beat Rex Roof 8-5; Madux Cummins edged John Curtsinger 8-6; and Ryan Hammett earned his first varsity win by downing Vasav Rashan 8-2.
In boys doubles, Cansler and Jordan Hammett defeated Roof and Curtsinger 8-6; and Michael Henry and Brycen Banister turned back Rashan and Isaac Lafarge 8-5.
Caldwell’s home match against Christian County has been canceled.
Next up on the Caldwell tennis schedule is a home date against Henderson County next Tuesday.
