Late Run Propels Warren Central Past Madisonville at Sweet 16

Madisonville was leading Warren Central by 11 points and just over 10 minutes away from their first Sweet 16 semifinal appearance since 1984. However, the Dragons used an 11-0 run to tie the game and outscored the Maroons 6-2 over the final 90 seconds to grab a 66-62 win and send the Second Region champs home.

In their opening round win over Lincoln County, Madisonville (30-5) took advantage of turnovers early to pad their lead. On Friday, it was Warren Central who scored 17 points off 17 Madisonville turnovers.

Kenny White had another strong showing at the Sweet 16, scoring 27 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. K’Suan Casey had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Both players are juniors. Keshawn Stone scored seven points, and senior J.D Gilbert scored six points and handed out seven assists.

Warren Central (22-11) advances to the Sweet 16 semifinals for the second straight year, marking the fifth time in the past six seasons that the Fourth Region champ has advanced to the final four.

Dre Boyd led the Dragons with 15 points, and Kobe Roberts scored 10 points.

Warren Central will play Scott County in semifinals. The other semifinal has Trinity playing Campbell County.
