Detorrion Ware scored 17 points after halftime to lead Jacksonville State to an 89-84 double overtime win over Eastern Illinois Thursday.
The former Christian County all-state guard scored 12 points in the second half and five in the two overtime periods in finishing with 20 points – equaling his season-high.
“We were down 11 or 12 points, but Detorrion turned the game around,” head coach Ray Harper said. “He came in and banged a couple of 3-pointers for us when we needed them. He plays behind a lot of seniors, and we know how good he is going to be.”
Ware hit 4-of-6 from behind the arc and all six of his free throws in just 15 minutes of action. Eastern Illinois featured former Hopkinsville standout Jaqualis Matlock, who finished with seven points and seven rebounds before fouling out.
With Jacksonville State’s win and Austin Peay’s loss to Eastern Kentucky, the Gamecocks moved into sole-possession of third place in the Ohio Valley Conference going into the final game of the regular season.
