Lyon County buried eight 3-pointers in the first half to grab the lead and went on to beat Hopkins County Central 85-66 Thursday night on Senior Night in Eddyville.
A 3 by senior Gabe Board helped send Lyon to halftime with a 42-33 advantage.
The Lyons (19-9) led by as much as 14 points early in the second half before Hopkins Central (12-14) tried to make a run. But every time the Storm would get within striking distance, Lyon would deliver a dagger with a trey.
Hopkins Central trimmed the margin to 52-47 midway through the third quarter and appeared to have the momentum following a 3-pointer by Tylan Mann.
But Travis Perry countered with a 3 at the other end for Lyon, and the Lyons extended their lead to 62-51 through three quarters.
A three-point play early in the fourth quarter by Mann had the Storm as close as 62-54.
But this time it was Kade Blackburn who connected from long range on the ensuing trip up the court for Lyon.
That started a 13-0 run that put the homestanding Lyons in command. A three-point play by Perry with 4:17 left in the game had Lyon up 75-54 and the outcome was never in doubt after that.
Perry finished with 29 points to lead all scorers in the contest while Board tallied 26. Jackson Shoulders had 14 points despite missing much of the second half with foul problems. Lyon finished the night with 10 3-point baskets.
Mann led Hopkins Central with 22 points. Sam Almon added 15 and Blasin Moore totaled 12 points.
It was Lyon’s second win over the Storm this season.
The Lyons now turn their attention to the 5th District tournament next week at Livingston Central. Lyon will look for its 20th win of the season when it takes on Trigg County in a semifinal contest. That matchup is set for Monday at 6 p.m.
