The Lyon County girls’ basketball team saw a 5-game win streak snapped with a 66-39 loss to visiting Madisonville-North Hopkins on Tuesday night. The Lady Maroons increased their lead each quarter on the way to their sixth-straight win to move to 19-6 on the year. Lyon County slips to 12-10 overall with a visit from Union County scheduled for Friday.
The Lady Maroons held a 6-point edge after a low scoring first quarter, before starting the second period on a 13-3 run to lead 26-10 with 2:51 left in the first half. Allison Murphy and Cathryn Brown each came up with a steal and score and Rose Smith knocked down a jumper with less than a minute to play to trim the halftime advantage to 28-16.
Madisonville began the second half on a 8-2 spurt, doubling-up the Lady Lyons at 36-18. Brown scored 7 third-quarter points for Lyon County, but Courtney Peyton scored 9 and Lindsey Peyton added 7 to help the Lady Maroons to a 21-point advantage with a quarter to play.
Lyon County began the fourth with a 7-2 run to cut the margin to 16 after a Brown jumper with 5:00 to play, but couldn’t get any closer the rest of the way.
Courtney Peyton finished with 27, including 21 in the second half, to go with 6 rebounds. Lindsey Peyton had 16 and 10 for the Lady Maroons.
Brown was the only Lady Lyon in double figures with 15, followed by Murphy with 9 points and 9 rebounds, and Smith with 8 and 5.
