The Todd County Central boys’ basketball team appeared ready to ride the momentum from a strong second-half showing in its last time out against Logan County, building an early lead before falling 80-58 to visiting Rossview on Monday night. The Rebels drop their eleventh-straight to slip to 5-20 on the year.
Todd County’s Preston Moore got off to a quick start with 8 first-quarter points and Clayte Weathers knocked down a couple of 3-pointers to help the Rebels to a 5-point lead after the opening quarter.
The Hawks surged ahead early in the second quarter, but the Rebels cut the lead to 2 on a bucket by Jon Calvery with just under 2 minutes left in the first half. However, Max Leineweber hit a 3 for the last of his 7 points in the quarter, part of a 6-0 run to close the half for a 36-28 Rossview lead.
The Hawks scored the first 9 points of the second half, with a putback by Kole Monson capping the 15-0 spurt to push the margin to 17. Moore hit 1 of 2 free throws for the Rebels to trim the margin to 14 with :20 left, but Monson beat the third-quarter buzzer with a 3-pointer and Rossview led 61-44.
The Rebels couldn’t mount a serious challenge over the final 8 minutes, ultimately falling 80-58.
Calvery led the Rebels with 14 points, followed by Weathers and Moore with 11 each.
Monson led all scorers with 22, joined in double figures for Rossview by Leineweber with 20.
