
A big third quarter helped turn things around for Caldwell County on Tuesday, and the Tigers went on to beat Hopkins County Central 74-58 in 7th District action in Princeton.
The Tigers, who lost 67-66 on a last-second shot at Mortons Gap earlier this season, faced a 26-25 deficit at halftime in the rematch.
But Caldwell outscored Hopkins Central 24-14 in the third quarter to go up 49-40. The Tigers led by as much as 17 points late in the contest on the way to the 16-point victory.
Derrin Boyd scored eight of his game-high 22 points in the decisive third period. He also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds in the contest.
John Davis added 20 points and seven boards for the Tigers while Cayden Fraliex had 12 points and Tripp Branch scored nine points on three 3-pointers.
Tylan Mann had 20 points to lead Hopkins Central while Blasin Moore added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Caldwell is now 14-7 overall and 2-2 in district play.
Hopkins Central is 8-11 and 1-3.
Next up for Caldwell is a home district date against Madisonville-North Hopkins on Friday.
