The Todd County Central boys’ basketball came out on the wrong end of a close game for the second-straight outing, taking a lead into the fourth quarter before falling 59-53 to the host Butler County Bears on Monday night.
Jon Calvery scored 5 first-quarter points for the Rebels, but Parker Rice countered with 6 for the Bears and the teams were tied 14-14 going into the second quarter.
Calvery added 6 more in the second, with Dominique Morrow getting in on the act with 4 to help the Rebels to a 30-25 lead at the halftime break. Justin Elms kept the Bears close with 7 of his team’s 11 points in the second quarter.
The Rebels held the Bears to only 9 third-quarter points, but could only manage 10 of their own for a 6-point edge with 8 minutes to play.
Rice got going again for the Bears in the final quarter, scoring 8 of his 14 points. Elms added 5, and Jaden Hurt scored 4 to help Butler County outscore the Rebels 25-13 for the 6-point, come-from-behind win.
Calvery’s 17 points led all scorers, followed for the Rebels by Morrow with 11, Austin Rager with 8, and Preston Moore with 7, 4 in the final quarter.
Hurt and Rice joined Elms with 14 to help the Bears to their fifth win in six tries, 13-7 overall.
