Lady Tigers Find Offense in Road Win at Trigg County

Caldwell County was waiting for their offense to get on track after five straight games of failing to reach 50 points. Thanks to eight 3-pointers and shooting 42-percent from the field, the Lady Tigers scored a season-high in points in downing Trigg County 71-58 Tuesday at Wildcat Gym.

Three players scored in double-figures, and Caldwell went to the free throw line 23 times, making 17 in snapping a four-game losing streak.

The teams were even early, with the first half featuring five ties and seven lead changes. Caldwell led by as many as six points in the first quarter (11-5), but Trigg answered with a 10-2 run to grab a 15-13 lead with 1:16 left on a bucket by Adri Phillips. Caldwell countered with six of the next seven points to lead 19-16 after the first eight minutes.

Caldwell again took a 6-point lead in the second quarter only to see Trigg battle back to take a 32-31 lead with 2:01 left. The Lady Tigers ended the half with seven straight points, including a runner by Jada Boyd at the halftime horn for a 38-32 lead.

Caldwell took control early in the third quarter when a Jacey Jaggers 3-pointer extended their lead to 44-34. Trigg battled back to within 44-40 but would never get any closer.

The Lady Wildcats got to within 54-50 early in the fourth quarter. An 11-3 Caldwell run proved to be the back-breaker for Trigg.

Bella McConnell scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Lady Tigers. Jaggers added 16 points and seven boards, and Boyd scored 12 points and had four steals.

Caldwell County shot 43-percent from the field and turned 18 Trigg turnovers into 21 points.

Trigg County shot 44-percent from the field but were done in by the turnovers.

Phillips led the scoring for Trigg County with 15 points. Katelyn Slone hit four 3-pointers to finish with 12 points. Rylee Bush and Marleigh Reynolds each had eight points and seven rebounds.

Caldwell County, who has won 16 straight games against Trigg County, improved to 8-10. They will travel to Crittenden County Thursday.

Trigg County (9-12) will play at Calloway County Friday.
