
Caldwell County blistered the nets at a 58-percent clip and ran past Trigg County 74-60 Tuesday at Wildcat Gym.
The Tigers shot around 58-percent in both halves and hit 8-of-14 from 3-point range to stave off any rally chances Trigg County had. The game featured five ties and eight lead changes as Caldwell outscored Trigg 38-37 in the first half.
John Davis hit a 3-pointer to end the first half and another three to start the third quarter to put Caldwell up 41-37. The Tigers would extend their lead to eight points.
Trigg got as close as 47-44 but would get no closer as Caldwell continually had the answer for any Trigg surges.
Cayden Fraliex scored seven points during a deciding 10-2 run toward the end of the third quarter that gave Caldwell a decisive advantage.
In addition to their dead-eye shooting from the field, Caldwell County hit 14-of-16 free throws.
Derrin Boyd led Caldwell County with 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field. He had six rebounds and four assists.
Fraliex added 19 points, and Davis added 13 points and five assists for Caldwell.
Kendric Adams led Trigg County (7-14) with 16 points and five rebounds. Eighth grader Gavin Grubbs added 13 points and five assists, and Hayden Cunningham came off the bench to score 11 points. Kyron Grubbs scored six points and handed out nine assists.
Trigg County hit 50-percent or better for just the third time this year. They hit 8-of-11 behind the arc.
Caldwell County (12-7) hosts former Fifth District rival Lyon County Thursday.
Trigg County (7-14) travels to Fulton City Saturday.
