The Lyon County Lyons are headed for the semifinals of the Boys 2nd Region All A Classic following an impressive win over Crittenden County Tuesday night. After falling behind 2-0, the Lyons went on an 8-0 run and were never seriously threatened again by the Rockets, as Lyon County roared its way to a 61-41 win in Eddyville.
Gabe Board, who recently returned from a knee injury, had a big 1st quarter for the Lyons, scoring seven points in the opening eight minutes. Board’s play, combined with that of Jackson Shoulders, helped take the Lyons to a 14-7 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.
In the second quarter, it was Travis Perry’s turn to carry the load for the Lyons. Despite having trouble getting his outside shot to fall, Perry still managed 8 points in the second quarter. The Lyons were leading 22-12 when they scored the final 11 points of the half. Lyon County went to the break in full control of the contest with a 33-12 lead.
Lyon County came out of the break and kept things rolling along in the 3rd quarter. The quarter ended with the Lyons having extended the lead out to 52-29, after having led by as many as 28 minutes in the quarter.
Reserves saw extensive time for Lyon County over the final eight minutes of the game, as the Lyons cruised on out for the 20 point win.
Gabe Board had a solid night for the Lyons will 17 points. Jackson Shoulders has a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Gabe Defew had 12, while Travis Perry added 11 for the Lyons.
Gabe Mott was the only player to reach double figures for the Rockets with 16 points, 13 of them coming in the 2nd half of play. Hunter Boone added 7 points for Crittenden County.
The Lyons advance on to the All A 2nd Region semifinals, and will face UHA at 6pm Friday night at Dawson Springs. UHA is the 6 time defending regional champion. Lyon County is the only team other than UHA to have won more than one All A Regional title. The Lyons have three, with the last one coming in 2009.
