
Hopkinsville’s 2019 football schedule features several traditional western Kentucky powerhouses in additional to an improved district schedule.
The Tigers will open their season Aug. 23 at Kenwood High in Clarksville. The Knights are a Class 5A school in Tennessee that went 4-7 last year.
Hoptown will face Class 2A power Mayfield Aug. 30 in the Toyota of Hopkinsville Bowl at the Stadium of Champions. Mayfield beat Hoptown 35-7 last year. The Tigers last beat Mayfield in 2005.
The Tigers will face another set of Tigers on Sept. 6 when they host Caldwell County. Hoptown handed Caldwell a 35-20 loss last year in Princeton.
Hopkinsville hits the road Sept. 13 when they play at Class 6A Henderson County. The schools haven’t played since 2000 when they were in the same Class 4A district.
Hopkinsville won the game 14-7 on their way to an appearance in the Class 4A semifinals.
The annual bragging rights game with cross-town rival Christian County will be played at the Stadium of Champions on Sept. 20. Christian County won the 2018 matchup 16-7 and have won four straight in the series.
Hopkinsville begins district play Sept. 27 at home against Calloway County. Hoptown will look to extend their winning streak to 16 games against the Lakers.
Hoptown’s second district game will be against Logan County at the Stadium of Champions. The last two regular season games between the teams has been decided by a total of five points.
Another tough district game awaits Hopkinsville on Oct. 11 when the Tigers travel to Madisonville in a rematch of their second round playoff game won by Madisonville 20-0.
Hopkinsville’s bye week is Oct. 18 ahead of their Oct. 25 district game at Hopkins County Central. Hoptown is 11-0 all-time against the Storm.
Hopkinsville will close out the regular season Nov. 1 against Paducah Tilghman at the Stadium of Champions. Tilghman won the 2018 game 47-13 and haven’t lost to the Tigers since 2010.
Hopkinsville was 5-7 in 2018 and advanced to the second round of the Class 4A playoffs. The combined 2018 record of the opponents on Hoptown’s 2019 schedule is 72-47. Their postseason record was 10-9.
