The Lyon County boys’ basketball team found points hard to come by in a 64-37 loss to McCracken County on Tuesday night in Eddyville. The Lyons were held to single-digits in each of the first two quarters, on their way to their second-straight loss. Lyon County now stands at 6-5 overall, while the Mustangs remain unbeaten at 8-0.
Noah Dumas scored 9 of his game-high 26 points in the first quarter to help the Mustangs double up the Lyons 16-8. Dumas stayed hot with 11 in the second quarter, and Lyon County was again held to 8 points to trail 34-16 at the halftime break.
Gabe DeFew scored 6 third-quarter points for the Lyons, but McCracken continued to build its advantage behind 7 points from Jackson Sivills. The Mustangs took a commanding 47-27 lead into the final 8 minutes.
Travis Perry got going for the Lyons in the final frame with 8 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Mustangs cruised to the 27-point victory. The loss is the most lopsided of the season for Lyon County.
Perry’s 18 led the Lyons, followed by DeFew with 11. Jackson Shoulders, the Lyons’ second-leading scorer at almost 16 a game, was held to 3 points. Kade Blackburn came into the contest averaging almost 12 ppg, but finished scoreless.
The Lyons will compete in the Limestone Bank Christmas Classic at Butler County on Thursday and Friday. They open against the host Bears, before playing Fulton City on Friday.
