The Christian County girls’ basketball team led for three quarters against visiting Calloway County on Friday night, before Charlee Settle’s 39 points led the Lady Lakers to a 62-52 come-from-behind victory. The Lady Colonels have dropped 2 of 3 to even their record at 3-3. Calloway wins its fourth-straight to move to 4-1, with the only loss a 19-point thumping by Hopkinsville.
Aaliyah Hampton scored 5 first-quarter points to help the Lady Colonels to a 14-13 lead. Hampton added 8 in the second, with Kinara Phillips and Bianna Snorton each scoring 4 to open a 32-23 lead at the halftime break. However, in a glimpse of what was to come, Calloway’s Charlee Settle began to heat up with 9 points in the second quarter.
Settle poured in 14 in the third quarter, trimming 3 points off the Lady Colonel lead. Phillips answered with 7, followed by Hampton with 6 to make the score 45-39 with one quarter to play.
Christian County went cold over the last 8 minutes, only managing 7 points. The Lady Lakers completed their comeback at the free throw line, shooting a blistering 12-13 to close the game. Settle scored 12 and Elle Carson scored 8, all from the foul line, to help turn a 6-point deficit into a 10-point Lady Laker victory.
Settle finished with 39, including 26 in the second half, to lead all scorers. Carson also finished in double figures for the Lady Lakers with 12. Calloway shot 27-34 at the free throw line for the game.
Hampton’s 23 led Christian County, followed by Phillips with 11 and Snorton with 7.
The Lady Colonels won’t have to dwell on the loss for long, as they travel to Muhlenberg County on Saturday to face Graves County (3-3) in the Lady Mustang Classic.
