Trigg County was in control of their district contest at Lyon County for three quarters Friday. Then the fourth quarter happened. Down 41-36, the Lyons began the fourth quarter on a 12-0 run and held on to beat the Wildcats 55-50. Lyon completes the first round of district play with a 3-0 record, while Trigg County is 1-2.
Jackson Shoulders began the quarter with a bucket to pull the Lyons to within 41-38. Trigg’s defense had held Lyon County seventh grader Travis Perry in check through three quarters. The guard came into the contest averaging 21.5 points a game but had eight points on 2-of-12 shooting. However, it didn’t take long for him to heat up. Perry buried 3-pointers from the corner on consecutive possessions to erase the deficit and give the Lyons a 44-41 lead.
Trigg missed their first three attempts of the quarter and turned the ball over twice during the 12-0 run. Meanwhile, Lyon hit 7-of-11 shots in the quarter to extend their lead to 53-43 with 3:19 left.
The Wildcats got to within 53-50 with 31 seconds left as Kendric Adams scored Trigg’s final nine points. Adams finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Jakobe Bridges scored 12 points, and Kyron Grubbs had 11 points and four steals.
Perry had 15 points on 4-of-16 shooting from the field. Grubbs and Bridges took turns guarding Perry and held him to an assist and four turnovers. Nick Whalin added 13 points, and Kade Blackburn scored seven of his 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Trigg County outrebounded Lyon 30-19 but turned the basketball over 19 times that led to 17 Lyon points.
For the Lyons, it was their second come-from-behind win on their home floor this week. Tuesday, the Lyon trailed Webster County by 14 points after three quarters before rallying for an overtime win over Webster County.
Trigg County (4-3) will play at Warren East in the Class 2A championships Saturday.
Lyon County (6-3) plays Carlisle County Saturday at the Save a Life Shootout at McCracken County.
