A handful of scoring lulls over the course of the game was too much for the Christian County Lady Colonels to overcome Friday night. The Lady Colonels dropped their second game of the season, falling to the Bullitt East Lady Chargers 68-54.
The game started off about as badly as it could have for the Lady Colonels. Bullitt East opened in a 2-3 zone that seemed to give Christian County problems in the opening minutes. The Lady Chargers galloped out to a 12-0 lead. The Lady Colonels finally got on the board on a basket by Talitha Bryant with 4:35 to go in the first to make it 12-2.
Christian County spent the rest of the quarter trying to fight their way back into the game behind the play of Bryant and Trinity McGee. When Aaliyah Hampton hit a runner in the lane at the buzzer, the Lady Colonels had cut the lead to 17-11.
With Bianna Snorton connecting for five quick points, and the Lady Colonels getting some steals and run outs, Christian County opened the 2nd on an 11-4 run to take a 22-21 lead. That lead would be short lived.
Bullitt East outscored the Lady Colonels 18-4 to finish the half and go to the break witn a 39-26 lead.
Coming out of the locker room the Lady Chargers effectively put the game away quickly. The Lady Chargers opened the half with a 13-0 run to push the lead to 52-26. The Bullitt East defense was stout as well, holding the Lady Colonels scoreless for the first 5 1/2 minutes of the second half.
While Christian County finished the quarter on an 8-2 run, the Lady Colonels still found themselves trailing 54-34 after the third.
The Lady Colonels could never get a serious run mounted in the 4th quarter as the teams essentially traded baskets. Bullitt East would ride it on out for the 68-54 win.
Christian County was led by Bianna Snorton with 17. Aaliyah Hampton added 16 for the Lady Colonels. Trinity McGee, who battled foul trouble all night long, score 8 before fouling out.
Lexi Taylor had a big night for Bullitt East, scoring 25 points. Kennedy Griffin added 13.
Christian County falls to 2-2. The Lady Colonels return to action Tuesday when they host Owensboro.
Bullitt East improved to 3-1 with the win.
