A slow start was a bit too much for the Christian County Lady Colonels to overcome Tuesday night in their season opener. The Lady Colonels were upended by Muhlenberg County 63-53 at Colonel Gym.
The Lady Mustangs’ defense was stingy in the early part of the ballgame. Muhlenberg gave up only seven points in the opening quarter, five of those to Aaliyah Hampton, as they jumped out to a 16-7 lead after one.
Trinity McGee and Talitha Bryant battled in the second quarter for the Lady Colonels, as they tried to eat into the Lady Mustangs lead. By the half, Christian County had trimmed the margin to 28-20.
After halftime, Muhlenberg County continued to hold the Lady Colonels at arm’s length. The Lady Mustangs’ lead was still at 8, 40-28, when the 3rd quarter ended.
Despite a big effort from Bianna Snorton and Aaliyah Hampton in the final quarter, Muhlenberg County was able to hold on and pick up the ten point win.
Christian County was led by Hampton with 17 points, and Snorton with 15. Trinity McGee was also in double figures with ten.
Muhlenberg County was paced by Grace Hauslein with 17 points and Elisabeth Joines with 14.
