Webster County emerged from a wide-open Second Region field to claim the championship last year and enters 2018-19 atop the first YSE Girls’ Basketball Super 7 of the season.

1) Webster County (28-7) – The Lady Trojans lost a pair of seniors to graduation but return two of their top three scorers from last year’s team that went 16-1 against region competition. Karlie Keeney (10.9 ppg.) and Marissa Austin (10.0) are back, and the Lady Trojans have added freshman transfer Raigan Price, who was Union County’s second leading scorer last year.

2) Christian County (23-8) – Two of the Lady Colonels’ three region losses last year came to Webster County, including a 45-32 setback in the region title game. Senior guard Aaliyah Hampton (13.9 ppg.) is back to run the Lady Colonel offense. Guards Bianna Snorton (4.8 ppg.) and Kinara Phillips (6.3 ppg.) give the Lady Colonels an experienced backcourt that should challenge Webster for the top spot.

3) Henderson County (14-13) – The Lady Colonels return their top three scorers from last year where they lost to Christian County in the region semifinals. Emilee Hope (14.8 ppg.) and Alyssa Dickson (11.6 ppg.) return for a Henderson County squad blessed with youth and experience. While they begin the season ranked behind both Webster County and Christian County, don’t be surprised if Henderson County isn’t cutting the nets down come region time.

4) Hopkinsville (20-11) – Five of the Lady Tigers’ six region losses came to either Christian County or Henderson County last year. Jayla Rose (16.0 ppg.) was nearly unstoppable down the stretch for Hoptown last year and returns to lead a team with an experienced backcourt of Breon Oldham (13.2 ppg.) and Yogi McKnight (6.4 ppg.).

5) Madisonville (8-18) – The Lady Maroons return their top four scorers from last year’s team, led by Courtney Peyton (14.2 ppg.) and Camryn LaGrange (10.8 ppg.). They will challenge both Caldwell County and Hopkins County Central in what should be a fun Seventh District to watch this year.

6) Caldwell County (16-13) – Like Madisonville, the Lady Tigers return virtually everyone from last year’s team. Jacey Jaggers (12.2 ppg.) and Jada Boyd (8.7 ppg.) will highlight a Lady Tiger offense that will look to develop their inside game as the season progresses.

7) Hopkins County Central (14-16) – The Lady Storm could be a spoiler in the region this year as veteran coach Nancy Oldham returns to the sideline as head coach. Senior Nykea Ikeard (11 ppg., 11 reb.) is the lone returning double-figure scorer, but Hopkins Central returns 98-percent of their scoring from last year’s team that was upset by Dawson Springs in the district tournament.
